amoeba (pronounced a mēbà; plural -E; -BAS; baz L BÆ bē )
A microscopic animalcule of any of several species, common in stagnant fresh water. It is one of the simplest animals, consisting of a nucleated mass of protoplasm, with out a distinct cell wall.
