Anchor a noun

Anchor (pronounced ăngkor) is an instrument for holding a ship by gripping the ground;

                                                 that to which one clings for safety, or with hope v to let down an anchor to hold a ship.

anchorage  a place where ships are anchored 

anchoret  ( pronounced ăngkōret) anchorite  is the one who lives apart 

                  a hermit
